I have a new Lenovo T530 with a Toshiba MK5061GSY HDD. It keeps running disk check on startup every other boot. Does Toshiba make any sort of diagnostic software that i can use on this HDD?

I'm not sure about Toshiba but in this case you should be looking for Lenovo diagnostics.
When you boot up, do you see the messages for entering the BIOS and other functions?
You may have a "blue" button on the upper left that takes you there.

How old is your laptop? Is it still under warranty?

Hard drives tend to deteriorate with time, especially when they are subjected to bumps and turns (like the ones in laptops).

If your drive is out of warranty (and you have a good backup) you may want to consider an SSD for its replacement. Although a bit more expensive, they are lighting fast and have no mechanical parts. Electronic components do wear out too, but they will last probably a lot longer that your current drive.

Also, if your drive is out of warranty, and you need to recover your files before it checks out. You should consider a VERY nice tool that will not only save this drive (for HDDs only, not SSDs) but others too and can be used to prevent drive issues like this one:

SpinRite: http://www.grc.com/sr/whatitdoes.htm price is $89 for new customers, but believe me, it's well worth the price!

You can watch a very nice video about how HDDs used to work (AND STILL DO! for the most part) made by the same developer of SpinRite, Steve Gibson in the 90s: http://twit.tv/show/security-now/384. To jump right to the interesting part, you can skip to minute 10:00. Enjoy!

One thing I discovered by accident last week.. Parted Magic (http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads#.URJ3CSdoJJE) Has some fairly good diagnostic utils included.. create a bootable thumbdrive and take a look.
