We downloaded and installed Free Comodo Firewall.  It installed a series of apps which we don't know what are they.  Also noticed after installed and various restart, the Windows Firewall is still active.

Questions:

  1. What are apps or icons installed with Comodo (see pic): GeekBuddy, Comodo
Dragon, Virtual Comodo Dragon and SharedSpace?
  2.  Also in Comodo Firewall, what is Virtual Kiosk for?
  3. Should Windows Firewall be active (see pic)
  4. Finally, is there a way to test if we are protected with comodo?

Thanx

1. What are apps or icons installed with Comodo (see pic): GeekBuddy, Comodo
Dragon, Virtual Comodo Dragon and SharedSpace?
Comodo GeekBuddy is a personalized computer support service provided by friendly computer experts at Comodo. If you experience any issues at all with your computer, simply click the GeekBuddy icon to establish a chat session with one of our technicians.

After requesting your permission, they’ll establish a remote connection to your PC and fix the problems right in front of your eyes. No longer do you need to make time consuming calls to impatient help desk support staff. Instead, just sit back and relax while our friendly technicians do the work for you.

Comodo Dragon is a fast and versatile Internet Browser based on Chromium and infused with Comodo's unparalleled level of security.

Virtual Comodo Dragon its referring to dragon being sandboxed as fully virtualized. The virtual kiosk is also a fully virtual environment. They share the same sandbox the biggest different is the virtual kiosk has a user interface for the sandbox to make it easier to use. The files are stored in a hidden file in the C: drive called VTRoot. Anything that is sandboxed as fully virtualized will be in this folder.
http://forums.comodo.com/defense-sandbox-help-cis/difference-between-vitual-dragon-and-kiosk-t89407.0.html;wap2=

'Shared Space' is a dedicated area on your local drive that sandboxed applications are permitted to write to and which can also be accessed by non-sandboxed applications (hence the term 'Shared Space'). For example, any files or programs you download via a sandboxed browser that you wish to be able to access from your real system should be downloaded to the shared space. This folder is also used by the Virtual Kiosk and is located by default at 'C:/Program Data/Shared Space'.
You can access the shared space folder in the following ways:
Clicking the 'Shared Space' shortcut on your computer desktop
Clicking 'Shared Space' button on the CIS interface
Opening 'Sandbox Tasks' from the Tasks interface then clicking 'Open Shared Space'
https://help.comodo.com/topic-72-1-451-4768-Configure-Sandbox.html#adv_shared_space_settings

2.  Also in Comodo Firewall, what is Virtual Kiosk for?
The Virtual Kiosk is a sandboxed operating environment inside of which you can run programs and browse the Internet without fear that those activities will damage your real computer. Applications running in the kiosk also leave no cookies or history behind on your real system, making it a secure environment for Internet banking and online shopping. It is also ideal for visiting any risky websites/links and for testing out beta/unstable software.

3. Should Windows Firewall be active (see pic)
YES

4. Finally, is there a way to test if we are protected with comodo?
Actually, it is difficult to do a test with any Antivirus or firewall products. All products are not perfect as the human factor is the weakest part of all security solution and the OS, the browser and the servers for websites might have unknown security flaws just like what the big Java problem recently. So, let the user aware of the security risks when surfing the Internet and doing online transactions and DO the basic things such as applying the latest patches to the OS and the antivirus software and DO NOT click links and open attachments even those are from the best friends without asking the same whether they do send you the stuff.

Thanx!

I tested geekbuddy and found out is a pay service (which is obvious) but since we don't want to use it keeps popping up in an Comodo apps that connects to it (when detecting is an apps in memory with problems).

Is there a way to stop that?

Also if we are only using Comodo firewall, can we uninstall the other apps?

Lastly, you mention that "yes", windows firewall should be on.  So there is no problem to have Comodo and Microsoft firewall turned in? There is no conflict?

Also if we are only using Comodo firewall, can we uninstall the other apps? YES, but I have not yet tried myself.

According to OmeletGuy, it says:-

"...You can get just the firewall, all you have to do is when your installing CIS do a custom install, and then check off Antivirus, Dragon, and Geekbuddy."

Source: http://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/diagnostics-reports-problem-t80290.0.html;prev_next=prev

For your question of potential conflict, my opinion is that Windows Firewall shall be turned on always and there are numerous discussions on this topic.

http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6132_102-562985/are-two-firewalls-better-than-one-or-can-it-cause-conflicts/

My main reason is that if there is conflict, Comodo Firewall will advise you to turn off windows firewall when you install it and obviously, it does not give that advise at all.

For example, during the stage of installation of Symantec Endpoint 12, it advises me that there is conflict with Windows Firewall and has an option to disable Windows Firewall during the install of the Symantec Endpoint 12.
