SBS2008 DNS have multiple entries for same IP address

Hi,

I am trying to clean up our server which is set up by some other person and he left migration in the middle. I have few networking issues. In Forward Lookup Zone I have same IP address assigned to two different machines. Also I am not using SBS's DHCP. its enabled on router.

Alos in SBS BPA I get

Error: The DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server

Warning: There are no DNS name server (NS) resource records with SERVER.COMPANY.local for the _msdcs delegation in the forward lookup zone COMPANY.local.

How should I start fixing this issue? My boss wants to use DHCP of router.

Please help!

Thank You,
Parin

First of all, your boss is mistaken in wanting to use the router for DHCP.  The router cannot provide the same DHCP options to the clients that the Microsoft DHCP server does.  Here is a link to an article by Sean Daniels, one of the Sr Product Managers for SBS since the very early days, explaining why you want to use SBS and not the router

As for the dup records...simply delete the wrong one.  Then turn on DNS scavenging which will prevent those duplicate records.

Here's a great article written by one of the other SBS MVPs.  http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2010/08/12/setting-dns-scavenging-in-sbs-2003-and-sbs-2008.aspx
