Sbs 2011 server not connecting to the network

I am having a problem where Sbs 2011 server is not connecting to the network, the network card has a staic ip but is not connecting, sometimes on startup the server does not load the desktop, not sure if the two are related?? I am not an expert but can find my way around sbs

We had to make a quick decision, so we decided to work through the night and do complete re-build, just answer the above, the server has 16gb of ram, fujitsu recommended, and we got to the stage where we couldn't even get the desktop to load, so couldn't run internet connection wizard
