Recommended SMS/MMS Service Providers?

I am diving into the uncharted (for me) waters of integrating MMS into a website.

Our clients have requested that we build a mechanism that would allow cellphone users the ability to send an image via a text message attachment and have that image imported into our website where (after admin review and approval) the image becomes live.

We have 25 years of mainframe, PC and web development, including integration with 3rd party services such as Amazon via their APIs, but we've never done anything with SMS or MMS.

We assume of course that we need to use MMS since it involves a text message with an image attached.

We've google MMS Providers but with limited success - we found a company called OpenMarket and they seem very good - (what do we know though at this point :) - but need to talk with a couple other companies for comparison.

Can anyone provide some pointers to reliable commercial MMS providers, preferrably in the US? We need a company that will handle all of the setup of the text number that cellphones would send their images to - but we can/will write the interface to the MMS provider/gateway to fetch the messages and extract the images using whatever API the company provides.

Any references to reputable MMS providers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks experts!

What about a service like http://voxeo.com   You have to use a 3rd party gateway service.  Any of them will have api's you can use to do all you need to do.

I'll give them a call - don't quite understand the architecture yet - for example, why I need a voxeo if I have a gateware service - but I'm sure they'll advise. Any others you can think of?
