Mp4 process

We are converting video files daily to mp4 format for our clients. We noticed that it takes quit a bit of time to process. Before we purchase a new editing machine I was wondering what is being hardware is heavily being exercised on the computer during this process? What should be the focus points when buying a new machine for this dedicated process?

That also depends in part on the program you are using. A lot of graphics applications (including video processing) are making use of the GPU (the processor on the graphics card). If that is not the case with your program then focus on the processor.

Essentially what you do want is a fast allround system. I'd go for 64-bit here. Get a fast CPU (i7), plenty of RAM (8GB plus), a graphics card in the current high-end range (eg. GeForce 6xx) and a fast hard drive, since you will be writing a lot of data.

The choice here can be difficult. While Solid State Drives are getting better and better, their achilles heel is still the write speed. I would probably go for a 10,200 rpm standard hard drive, but it might be worth looking at some benchmarks there.

I'm sure there will be other suggestions, but I hope this helps.

ASKER

To clarify my previous question what would hardware piece would help with the transcoding performance?
Usually the processor is doing all the work, so the CPU. I would go for an Intel i7.
