Error on startup: Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device after trying setting seperate partition active

I had installed Windows 7 64-bit on a 160 GB hard drive. During install I used only 120 GB and left the other 40 GB for a seperate drive to be used down the road (as a software share or documents).

Went into disk management and did a right click on the 40gb drive and set it to be the Z drive, and gave it a volume name.  I formatted and set the partition to active. During this whole time windows did some updates and asked to reboot so I after setting the drive active I let the pc reboot.

When rebooting I get a screen that says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot in selected Boot Device and press a key".

I can't get into Windows now.
