Stealth Forwarding to SBS 2008 Sharepoint Internal Website - change port?

I'm trying to use Stealth Forwarding for a domain to https://remote.companyname.com:987

This works (sort of) if I'm using Internet Explorer.
But in Google Chrome, I never get to the sign in box.

The domain is registered with Dynadot, and I entered the information correctly.

Would it work properly if I changed the port from 987 to 80?
Is this even possible?
Are there any drawbacks?

It's not clear yet what you are trying to do.   the URL is to access the company web SharePoint website.  Trying to change the port number will only break it

OK.

I have a domain that the charity I support (IT-wise) has been using for several years.
Originally it was redirected at the domain host to Microsoft Small Business Platform and then redeveloped on the subsequent 365 platform.
The site is largely for people in different countries to download fairly static documents and information. Out of 80 or more users that currently use Exchange via RWW, Outlook client or via iphone, blackberry, android, etc., etc., maybe 5 actually physically ever set foot in the office where the server lives.

I've recently set up a number of sites and collections on our existing SBS server version of Sharepoint. With lots of additional features. It took me quite a while to figure out why access times were so appalling!!

For continuity, and ease of transition to the new system, it would be better if users could access the site using the familiar url.

At Dynadot, there is a domain setting - Stealth Forwarding - which I thought would be ideal.
But it only works via IE, NOT Chrome. Haven't tested other browsers.

In addition, I've set up a link in the main Sharepoint site Top Bar that links directly to a Netgear Readynas device with photo library software. The login on this doesn't work with the stealth forwarding.

The hardest thing is sorting and supporting the users, so I would rather spend several hours on a solution, than have to use an alternative that will costs me weeks explaining to the users over and over again. Including creating a new web application (although never done that before)

Grateful for any suggestions/recommendations.

A second server would have been better.
Not sure I'd get a budget approved at the moment.

A 301 redirect will suffice for now I think.
Thanks for your help
