Gpedit on Windows 2003?
Hi,
I'm used to gpmc on Windows 2008. Now I need to configure policies on a Windows 2003-server. If I try to install gpmc on a Windows 2008 server to manage the policies on Windows 2003 it says the soft is not compatible.
Please advise howto configure policies of Windows 2003 from a Windows 2008 server , without installing anything on the Windows 2003.

I take it the functional level of your domain is also 2003 if the above assumption is correct?

It is Windows Server 2003 indeed. What command can I type to run the domain pocliy management console on the Windows 2003 server? Or what tool can I install on a Windows 2008 server to run it remotely?
If you make changes to the Server 2008 DC are the changes not then replicated? Group Policy configuration is normally replicated via the SYSVOL shares on all DC's within the domain.

There is no Windows 2008, only 2003 (functional level is 2003).
I think I'm missing something here... you want to
Because as MichaelIanClaridge in an AD configuration at domain functional level - Windows Server 2003 you may have domain controllers on Windows Server 2008 and 2003 and you could manage GPO's that could be applied to Windows Server 2008/2003 servers and 2008/2003 DC's - for more details see Understanding Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) Functional Levels.
So the question is what do you want to achieve and what OSes do you have on your DC's and servers for that policies you want to apply?

There is no Windows 2008, only 2003 (functional level is 2003).I think you may not clearly state in your problem if you are using the Windows 2003 server as a DC or member server in the same AD as with the Windows 2008 server that also you did not mention if it is a DC or just a member server.

Is that all you wanted? You could have kept it to a line...'How do you install GPMC on Server 2008'
ASKER
Yes, if you know the answer, the q is easily asked correctly.

Btw: my q: If I try to install gpmc on a Windows 2008 server to manage the policies on Windows 2003 it says the soft is not compatible.
ASKER
Works for me.
Does this mean that you have domain controllers running 2003 and 2008? I don't think you can manage a 2003 DC's GPMC from 2008+, but you can download and install GPMC for 2003 even thought its not what you want.
Cheers
