Need to bring a linked table to local drive when Microsoft access database is opened on VPN

I have a laptop that logs in via VPN

Right now i have that VPN connecting to a linked table on network drive and it is very very slow.

I would like when that database is opened to grab that excel file and bring it locally so its quicker.

I have another question opened where i want to auto export that table to excel file everytime a new record is added.

Am i going about this the correct way?

I have everything else on a local database on that vpn'd laptop. That one table is the only thing that has to keep current and gets changed daily

Is there any reason why this has to be done locally?

Why not just log into the VPN, and run the application from your "desktop" on the remote server?  This puts all of the load (except the screen) on the server.

ASKER

my upload speed is that not great on my server side.

if i try to run my 5 mb access database from server it is very slow
Is this question to elaborate and detailed to answer? I noticed sometimes that ill get answers back right away then sometimes, like on this one, it just sits out there.

Is it too much work for 500 points?

should i do research on google to try and get this process done then come here for questions?

Just trying to find out the protocol here

Thanks for the comment.

I think doing what im asking is the best alternative for me.

I already have the database exporting the table everytime it is updated. So i all need is to have it copied to local vpn'd database so everything will be local when it access it.

I have a DSL connection on my server that only has .5mbs upload. So if i had something on my local database on my laptop grabbing that less than a meg table and putting it local that would put everything local and just as fast if i was on my local network.

When i vpn into work. i have access to my Z: which is my server. I just need to know how to pull that table for use on my database when i open it. I am not doing any editing so nothing needs to be updated back to server. just need to be able to view.

I know the best way would be able to put this thing on my sql webserver and access via secure web, but i haven't learned that much yet. this seems like the only option for me.
