MS Domain name change, what can I expect on the client side

Our company just changed its name and now we need to change our internal domain name. I have someone to work on the server side but just want to make sure that I understand what I’m up against in the client side.

We have 50 workstations (10 - XP and the rest Win7) all connected to the domain, we don’t use roaming profiles. I’m thinking that if I log into each machine with my administrative rights the day before we rename the domain and copy the users, favorites, Documents, and Desktop to another location. Then after the domain rename change all their passwords, login as the user and their new profile will be built. Then copy the users Documents, Desktop etc. into that new profile.

This seems like a long way around to do this, is there a better faster way? Anything else that I might be missing or to watch out for on the workstation side?

Thanks for your help in advance.
