I have an ADSL2+ connection, which is very fast for standard copper, and the page loaded without any problems. Though the rotating image at the top was the last thing to load. Not everybody has a good connection and are going to have problems waiting for the page to load. Creating the images sounds the best way, but make sure you are not breaking any copyright laws.
