demote crashed domain controller (server 2000)
I had a secondary domain controller crash about 6 months back (running Windows Server 2000), the server was so old we decided to replace it entirely instead of fixing the old box.
Info:
domain function level: Windows 2000 Native
forest function level: Windows 2000
Current Primary DC: Windows Server 2003 R2
Secondary DC: Windows Server 2003
So anyways im planning on replacing our primary dc soon so im prepping the new server (Running Server 2008 R2) It is not allowing me to add it as a domain controller (via dcpromo)
I get s far as Selecting the Domain for the additional DC, when I hit next the following message comes up.
"To install a domain controller into this Active Directory forest, you must first prepare the forest using "adprep /forestprep", The Adprep utility is available on the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation media in the \support\adprep folder"
I find that file and try to run it but nothing happens....
Any help would be appreciated. (not sure if i need to manually remove the old crashed DC or not)
