Errors in Event Log on Virtual Machine
Hi all.
I have an old physical server that's running Windows Server 2003.
We made this a virtual machine about 3 years ago.
Every time I reboot this VM I get an error saying a service failed to start.
The error in the event log is as follows:
Event ID: 7000
The HP 10/100TX PCI LAN Adapter NT Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
I don't see anything in Add/Remove Programs.
I don't see anything in Device Manager.
I don't see anything in the Services.msc either.
Any idea how to get rid of this error?
The other issue I keep seeing is a Warning in the Application section of the Event Log that shows the following:
Event ID: 53258
MS DTC could not correctly process a DC Promotion/Demotion event. MS DTC will continue to function and will use the existing security settings. Error Specifics: %1
This machine used to be a Domain Controller many years ago. Any help with this would also be appreciated.
Thanks.

if this was a P2V, have you ever removed hidden devices?
because I do not see any hidden devices present, - none.
and there should be from the Physical machine left as phantom devices.
did you follow the method exactly?
make sure you have turn on show hidden devices?

I followed the instructions to the letter.
If you run this command more than once does it HIDE the hidden devices?
The hidden devices were removed a long while ago from an outside company. I believe they were the ones who did the P2V conversion.
There has to be something somewhere that's causing this issue though...

I would also check the network bindings, and see if there is any reference to this device.
no, it does not hide the devices.

Sorry but I don't know how to check network bindings.
If you can provide a link or instructions that would be appreciated.

it's quick simply check your existing network interfaces properties for any bindings, other than tcp/ip etc
otherwise, I suspect, the company that did the P2V did not uninstall the HP software before they did the P2V, and if so, the uninstall routines for the software do not work on non-HP servers because the hardware cannot be found, and they left it!

Hmm nothing is showing in the interface properties for binding of any type.
I decided to look in the registry and have found the item below.
Any way to remove this short of deleting it?
If not, you think anything would be affected if I did remove the entry?
I could remove the key before I remove it.

Personally, if it's not causing any adverse effects on the server, other than causing an event log error, I would be inclined to leave it.
before you tamper with any live production machine, I would recommend a full backup of the VM.
Randomly deleting keys from the registry could cause more issues, you could try, by personally I would leave, unless affecting the server in Production.

Well the only issue is that when restarting the server I have to wait a good 5 minutes before the ALT+CTRL+DEL screen comes up - likely because it keeps trying to start this driver or service.
Any insight about the other issue?
