Directory Services failure

Blue screen on boot, c00002e2 directory services could not start because of the following error:  a device attached to the system is not functioning.  Booted into directory services restore mode.  Ran esentutl on nods.dit, integrity check passed.  Went to ntdsutil, and when the command for files is issued, it returns Could not initialize the jet engine:  jet error -1216.  Failed to open DIT for AD DS/LDS instance NTDSUTIL.  Error -2147418113.  Help!!

Do you have other domain controllers?

Have you seen this article?

ASKER

No other domain controllers.  I did restore NTDS but it didn't fix the problem - and most of the solutions I found on Google assume that the NTDS database is corrupt.  It obviously has a problem, because it won't list files in ntdsutil, but when I run esentutl the database comes up as clean.  I even ran a repair on it, but same result.  I can't find anything helpful when the database passes esentutl but not "files" in ntdsutil.

@dariusg - pay attention to the thread before you start making comments like this.  the user already stated 4 hours ago he did a restore and it didn't resolve the issue
I was finally able to restore back to a version from a month earlier and it worked.
