Netapp CIFS permission issue
I have a CIFS share that's setup with the following permissions:
Except No one can write to that share.. and other members of IT_Team cannot even read from it. The firmware user can read but not write... I've had more trouble with permissions on this Netapp than anything else, ever.
Add Access Control Entry
User/Group Name Permissions Operations
DIFC\firmware Full Control (rwx) Apply Delete
DIFC\IT_Team Full Control (rwx) Apply Delete
everyone Full Control (rwx) Apply Delete

What about NTFS permissions? It's a combination of the two

Hmmm good question. Stupid response though... I don't know how to check that. Gah that sounds bad I know, using the Shared Folder snap-in all I can get is Share perms. I honestly didn't think a Netapp supported NTFS permissions.

These are top level shares too, if that makes any difference. The one above's path would be \\ip.ad.dr.es\share

If I open the share from Windows explorer, I'm missing the security tab. And the qtree is set to NTFS.
When Netapp uses cifs it is typically added as a server on your Active directory domain and acts almost identically to your windows server.
Try this: From a server open server manager and connect to your Netapp just like you would a regular server. From that point you can view sessions/shares/permission s.
As a domain admin you can check the files/folders to see what permissions are allocated to them.

missed your last note.
Checked my notes
If the mode was already set to Unix and shares were created the shares must be removed and then recreated with NTFS or Mixed mode set.

Server Manager cannot connect.. I wont bore you with all the error text but it's complaining that the Netapp doesn't have a WS_Management service running..nor IIS or WinRM.
interesting about the qtree format thing..

I create a new CIFS share in the same path as the same one in question, created anew qtree with NTFS and no op locks. I have no Security tab. Could I possibly remove the qtree for the first folder and recreate.. would that alter the existing data to allow me to set the NTFS perms?
