Linksys 300 N Wireless card dead in Dell Laptop

Hi,

I had this card working fine in the dell laptop with Win XP. Both LEDs on.  Then I wanted to deactivate it for awhile so I clicked on something for that on the Linksys screen I think. Now after multiple uninstalls  reinstalls it's dead with both LEDs off.  Nothing listed in the possible connections screen although they exist.

Possibly related   add hardware   and   device list   don't come up in control panel but this may have also been the case while the card was working.

Thanks.

Check it is still enabled in the BIOS
Does the LED on the bezel light when you turn on the WiFi switch on the side?

As I said, both leds are off.

The card model is listed in the title. N denotes a type of slide in card for laptops. It is not usb.

As I said, addremove hardware doesn't come up.

As i said, i've unistalledreinstalled several times.

I will see if any of the other points are relevant.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. 300 N is not a model number.

Here are all the Linksys model numbers with "300" in themUser generated imageand all their devices containing "300N"User generated imageThere are no model numbers with "300 N" (Linksys doesn't put spaces in their model numbers).

If you're saying it's a CardBus adapter (they look like PCMCIA cards but have a gold plated ground strip across the top of the leading edge), the model number and version is on a sticker affixed to the bottom of the card. If there is no v# on the sticker, then it's v1. ExpressCard adapters also have a sticker with the model and version number, however the only ExpressCard adapters Linksys shows on their support site are the EC1000 and WEC600N. Anyway, there are enough other experts here, so I'm clicking Unmonitor
<- over there.

Hello and Thanks,

My  apologies, it is in fact wpc300N.  I think I had that originally, but clicked incorrectly here on this site and then had to retype the whole thing.  My strategy for that is now to submit it as soon as i write alot and then edit as needed.  This is what accounted for some of my not- the -greatest of attitudes herein.

Anyway, part of the trouble in dealing with this is that - and I think that this was the case previously when the card was working - is that the usual list that appears under system, device, hardware does not come up.  Also, add hardware under control panel does not populate.

I haven't had a chance to run the sysdm.cpl command, will do that soon.

I don't think it appears under internet connections but I can check again.

Does anyone think that Linkksys will support this, and is it possible that thsi is a windows problem related to what I've mentioned above.

Thanks again for the research,

 Lewis.

Partial success.  After getting the hardware  display up under system, it was possible to go into properties and change disable to enable for the wpc300n wireless adapter.  Immediately, both the power light and the link lights came on.  However, it may be enabled, but it isn't active.  That's next.

I think I'll be closing this question out,  and continuing on with the rest of the problem as a separate issue.

Thanks.

MASQUERAID ,

I'm going to followup with the link that you have provided to see if they have any further info for the activation, now that I've got it enabled.

thanks to both you and Dar247
