transact-sql most efficient way to parse a string in a colum

What is the most efficient way to parse a string to get 2 pieces:

string: AI-POL-12345.889900
piece 1: everything between the 'POL-' and '.' (in this example 12345)
piece 2: everything between the '.' and the end (in this example 889900)
