What can i do if contstance_tsc isnt available? are there any work arounds. i need a very reliable time source. the only available time sources that i see listed are xen and tsc.

Unless you're on an older, single-core, non-hyperthreading CPU, you shouldn't attempt to rely on TSC as a clock source.

Multi-core, hyper-threading, and the ability to "sleep" processors all hinder the accuracy of the TSC counter, thus rendering it an unreliable "high resolution" timing source.

Please provide the environment and requirements, and I'll be happy to help guide you to an appropriate timing source (which may mean additional hardware, depending upon your need for high-resolution and/or dependability (aka: lack of drift))

BTW: I think you meant "constant_tsc"

ASKER

Yes I did. It's a xen vm so it won't support new hardware. What about jiffies? I have that as a option.
is it ok to use jiffies?
