Exchange 2003 and outlook 2007 unknown error with contacts

Hi,

First of all, I'm french so excuse-me for my possible english errors.

I have recently installed Outlook 2007 on my network (about 30 users) with an Exchange 2003 server.

Before this, Outlook XP was installed.
Users uses the public folder to manage their contacts (name, phone, mail, and some notes)

Since, the installation of Outlook 2007, when peoples add a new contact in this public folder (by using Outlook 2007), they can't open it and the next message come in a pop-up :

"unable to open this element, unknown error."

I've made severals tests :

Create a contact on OWA (Exchange 2003) - OK
Open the contact on OWA (Exchange 2003) - OK
Open the contact on Outlook 2007 - OK
Edit the contact by adding something in the notes field in Outlook 2007 - KO
Create a contact on Outlook 2007 - OK
 - Open it in Outlook 2007 - KO
 - Open it in OWA (Exchange 2003) - KO

I don't have any ideas where the problems comes from ...

Exchange 2003 is up to date, same for Outlook 2007.
Outlook 2007 is connected to the Exchange server and no problems for calendars or mails.

I can access to the the public folder by the windows menu and see all my contacts with .EML extension, can open them, but I can't see the contacts created or modified on Outlook 2007 (who are still saved somewhere because they are here in Outlook 2007)

Any Suggestions ?

Thanks

try to do these :

- unmount storage in exchange 2003 then remount it.
- in exchange EMC go to address book -> offline address book -> then right click -> rebuild

and update me.

ASKER

rebuild the offline adress book doesn't work.

What do you mean by unmount/remount the storage in Exchange 2003 ?
sorry found it, (unmount the public folder storage and remount it)

dosen't works too :/
why you don't try to create new offline address book ? try to do it and then right click on new one and right click then choose set as New Default.
Tried it but the problem is still there :(
ok , we need to figure it out , enable logging in outlook 2007
open outlook :
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
Select the Enable logging (troubleshooting) check box, and then click OK two times.
Restart Outlook.

now do the steps that you have error with , then after getting the error follow this path to get the log file :
if you using windows 7 follow this link :
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook Logging

if use windows XP follow this path :

c:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Temp\Outlook Logging

then post the log file here to see where is the problem
hey,
