how to find out what server is being used to send out emails on sbs 2003 exchange

I have been handed over an sbs2003 server.

our email provider has an mx record which points to the server.

now how can I find out from the server how emails are being sent out.

I understand the sbs2003 is now acting as our pop3 server.

but what about sending emails, how can I find the server name or where do I go on the settings page sbs 2003.

am I right in saying smtp is a protocol only used to send OUT email and POP3 is used to recieve emails?

If your saying about users you can do message tracking and check emails routing and if it has SMTP connector or SMTP virtualserver setting to check if the connector uses DNS or Smarthost

i dont think im using third party smtp connector

how do I check how the emails are being routed or where my smtp connector settings are on exchange?
In ESM go to Server and Protocols and you will find POP and settings on it ..... in POP profile user ideally creates a Profile with the Incoming and Outgoing server as thats what it will find to Send emails

ok so in sbs 2003 how do I find out which smtp server is being used?

i.e the isps smtp server to send out email or if the actual exchange server is being used to send out emails
Did you check on the exchange service running that I mentioned above?

Is it started or stopped?

The service is active?

does that mean my exchange server is the actual SMTP server?

maybe there is another setting somewhere which uses an authenticated SMTP server?
