FlashPlayer version doesn't display on FireFox or Internet Explorer

I have memory problems on HP Desktop, and recently ended up uninstalling FlashPlayerPlugin_11_5_502_146.exe *32 because it was killing my machine memory-wise. I then installed 10.3.183.43 and that seemed to settle things down. Later I accidentally re-installed 11_5_502_146 and started getting memory issues again (and a couple BSOD's, ugh).

So I again uninstalled 11_5_502_146 then installed that latest version, 11.6.602.168. But this doesn't display on FF 18.0.2 nor on IE-9.08*. It DOES however, display on Chrome-24.0* and Opera-12.14.

What's going on here ?

Machine specs
Windows 7 Ultimate, upgraded from Vista Home Premium, SP 2
HP, Model a6600f
Processor Intel Pentium Dual CPU E220 @ 2.2Ghz
4.0 GM RAM

I don't use Chrome because I keep getting the Shockwave crash thing (despite fixing it according to this)

I still need to vacuum and replace my memory sticks, but why wouldn't the Flash version display on FF or IE ? I even re-booted.

jcimarron, looks to me like I have the right Flash Player Plugin for FF . . .

joewinograd,

in the Adobe thread, it suggests to adjust "Download and Recording" option in RealPlayer, but that option doesn't exist in my RP-v.16.0.0.282 (it only has "Recording" and the options there don't match the Adobe video).

Adobe's last resort is to revert back to 11.2 or " temporarily disable Protected Mode", but "We strongly recommend that Protected Mode is manually enabled once this issue is resolved."
- so this is a temporary issue.

So I think I will just suffer through this for a bit and see how things work on other browsers. I just played a video in FF and it was jumpy but it played cleanly on IE-9.
William,
Your call, of course, but I went with the ProtectedMode=0 fix. Would be interesting to know if it works for you. You could try it for a few minutes...test it a bit after putting in the line...then remove the line (whether or not it works). Regards, Joe
ok, I'll give it a shot . . .
Joe,

I added the "Protected Mode" line to mms.cfg. I played the video and it seemed ok. Also, at the moment, the Flash Player / firefox seem quiet . . . we'll see.
William,
Sounds good...thanks for running the test. Will be interesting to see how it continues to go. Regards, Joe
also, the correct Flash Player now displays on FF . . . http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
very good help on this, PC is hanging in there with lots of good EE help . . .
Glad to hear it! Regards, Joe
Joe,

any idea about IE ? It still doesn't display the Flash version .
William,
I have almost no personal experience with Flash on IE. I use IE only for certain apps that require ActiveX, so I don't use it for Flash, although I just tested it and it works fine (IE9 on W7/64-bit). Maybe this Microsoft article will help you:

Regards, Joe
ok, good, thanks. it still doesn't show the Flash version using IE-9 (32-bit). But still this is another option to see how memory works - FF still kept sucking everything out.
I hear you on the memory issue...same thing here with Firefox...and with Chrome...big memory gobblers...and probably leakers.
hmmm . . . well I do have to get new memory sticks but sounds like that won't be the end of it, maybe just my BSOD's . . . I've given up on Chrome at home due to "Shockwave has crashed" (even though I've fixed it), and it's also a bit flaky at work.
I also have the Shockwave problem in Chrome, but it doesn't bother me much because I do nearly all of my browsing in FF.
ok, well, it's good to know it's not totally my machine . . . will keep fine-tuning . . . thx
