WSUS Service

I have a WSUS server and it seems to be working fine, other domain computers are reporting to it and getting updates from it. I noticed that for the last 8 days that there have been no new updates when the server syncs, and the syncs all show successful. So here is my question. I have a GPO setup for windows updates and one of the options that i have set is "specify instranet MS Update service location" and it points to the WSUS server, and the WSUS server is also attached to that GPO. I wonder if the server is looking at itself for updates and not going out to MS updates to download them. Under option in the WSUS console, the Update source is set to "Synchronize from MS update" Maybe there just haven't been any new updates, or the WSUS is looking at itself for the updates because of the GPO. Any help would be great.

yes this is the only WSUS server on the network. I ran the healthcheck and the eventlogs says that it is working correctly.
So just to be clear, it's ok for the WSUS server to have the GPO telling it to point to itself for the downloads, but during the sync interval the server still goes to MS update site to download the latest updates. Is that correct?
