Gap between header and spry menu + content div shifts when inserting menu

I am new to dreamweaver and it is driving me crazy. There is a gap between the header and the navigation menu that i cannot get rid of. The content div also shifts to the right of the menu when i insert the menu. How can i fix it? Thanks!

User generated imagethis is what looks like with the div shift - it looks fine on live view but hard to work on it in design view
If you're floating the menu then you need to clear the float. You can use overflow:auto on the container
User generated image this is what happens when i clear the float
here is the menu css
