sharepoint slow opening files (2 min) cellstorageservice

Hello,

Since few weeks there are complaint about opening files from sharepoint 2010. We tried to troubleshoot but no luck yet.

We experience: very slow opening files word for 5mb files. We see word: downloading.... it always opens but after 2 minutes most of the time. Never receive any error, always works in the end, but angry users...

I tried ussing fiddler and saw: cellstorageservice looks like being the problem. after 2 minutes i get the second cellstorage message and file is opened in Word 2010

Could not find too much about possible causes. Anyone Appside ? SQL Side ?

Thanks

I don't have a solution yet, but I"m wondering if this is a new issue as a result of a recent windows update.  I'm seeing this same issue that just popped up out of the blue at multiple client sites.  It seems to be machine specific, as if a user who has the issue logs onto a different machine, the problem doesn't exist.

Hi,

SQL side - are you doing the appropriate database maintenance - SQL data files are defragmented, indexes are defragged or rebuilt as appropriate ... ?

Are PDF's opening correctly?

quick test :PDF's ok

Our sql guy is gone.....   have to check that tomorrow. any reference guide what minimum maintenance is ?
Hi,

Recommended maintenance is once a week do the maintain index maintenance plan.

I'm starting to use Ola Hallengren's script

Most likely this isn't going to be a SQL thing....especially since PDF's open fine (both come from SQL)

5mb pdf....no problem....made of problematic word doc..... 2 minutes...

doc1.docx 5 mb  2 minutes....
doc1.pdf 5mb 3 seconds

so this cannot be a SQL thing ? or what.... little concerned about sql things..
Hi

The maintenance I mentioned above should be done and wont hurt anything. That is, don't spend all your time and energy on it, but follow it up anyway. That double kills the sql thing.

well we figured out....it turns out to be Kaspersky blocking things...on the Kaspersky forum there is some more information about this.

No solution yet.
Agreed with dtood, SQL maintenance should be done, but it's not causing this particular issue.

Are you positive that Kaspersky is the issue?  If so, can you disable on the client and test?

yes i am positive....one collgue had no problem and no kaspersky.... then i checked on my pc....all files 2 minutes with kaspersky...then shutdown kaspersky and everything fine....5 files checked of 5 mb per file all Word.

tried on pc of Non admin user and with Kaspersky 2-3 minutes...Kaspersky stopped...everything smooth as silk...
Cool.  I'm gonna try that solution at a couple of my client sites.

Yep, my client had the same issue.  They were on Kaspersky 8, and had to roll back to 6.
