Windows 7 Spooler Service shutting down

I am having an issue with the Windows 7 spooling service. It keeps shutting down, and my printers disappearing. When I go to start the service, it runs for 30 seconds and then shuts down again. I've read in the article below that you have to delete files from the C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS directory.

There are 2 files in there: 00002.SHD and 00002.SPL.

When I delete the two files, then go to print a word document, the same thing happens again, and the 2 files come back to that folder, and the spool service shuts down.
