P2V Windows NT/2000 SP4

Did any one ever P2V Windows NT/2000 server by removing the hard drive from the box and attaching the hard drive as a second drive to windows 7 64 machine?

My plan is to remove the hard drive, attach the hard drive to win7 64 using ATA to USB Adapter, and than use DISK2VHD.

I am not too familiar with P2V and wondering if this approach will work, please advise.

Disk2VHD is not supported on Windows 2000.

You could find another idea of using ImageX for example here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/enterprise_admin/archive/2010/04/12/hyper-v-p2v-for-windows.aspx

The method with the backup could work only if you have a prity standard server without special SCSI controllers for example and since this is hardly the case I would say that I don't think you will work.
