How to connect 3 pc in a LAN network using Comodo Firewall
We have 3 Computers with Comodo firewall installed. All PC in a LAN and we need them connected but form some reason the firewall of blocking it. If we uninstall Comodo all 3 connects.
What do we have to do to get them connected with Comodo firewall installed? (we want them connect and at the same time have them protected from other intruders).
One computer is windows 8 and the other are Windows's 7.

Prior placing the question we tried that; we went to network zone and place the ip or host name and still didn't work.
What IP range are you using on your LAN?
ASKER
The Rangel changes since we move the PC I different LAN. But to give you an example, a range can be 192.168.1.100 and on.
You need to enter the entire range in that tab, not just the host IP.
Since you won't tell me the range, I can't tell you what to enter there.
I'm clicking Unmonitor
<- over there now... good luck.

ASKER
What I meant is that at each LAN location there may be from 10 to 200 computers and the IP given 192.168.1.100 is 192.168.1.100, thru 192.168.1.210. In other LAN, the range is 10.0.0.33 thru 10.0.0.101, and so on.
If we enter the ranges, we are giving access to the rest of the PC of the LAN.
Also the IP of the 3 PC changes at each LAN.
What we want is for only the 3 PC to' on next each other but Comodo doesn't permit it.

Just reread your entry; what is "Unmonitor"?
ASKER
We were just informed that "Unmonitor" means that the Expert decided to drop from contributing the question (hope that is not the case).
Nevertheless, we'll place our situation as detailed as possible
1. The 3 computers are moved to different LANs in different locations.
2. The 4 LANs we move these PC to work with them are:
a. From 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.210
b. From 10.0.0.33 thru 10.0.0.101
c. From 192.168.12.32 thru 192.168.12.99
d. From 192.168.5.201 thru 192.168.5.2115
2. All 3 PC have Comodo Firewall installed in order to protect them when in the LANs
the work in.
The problem:
Since they have Comodo Firewall installed, they can't see each other and we need that these 3 PC see each other and share data only that is between themselves.
Hope this helps, help us.
Thank you in advance.

Thanx, we'll check on the links and get back to you guys.

Check the links (a lot of reading because there more links and reference), but couldn't configure Comodo Firewall yet.
To make sure that connections between the PC work, we uninstalled Comodo Firewall from all 3 computers and still can't ping or access between, yet they all have Internet acess. At this LAN we are at now, is a small wireless Belkin N150.
Could it be the router? if so, what should we look into?

Maybe, but I would check Windows first.
Not sure about W8, but W7 networks can be a PITA at times.
- are all 3 PCs in the same workgroup?
- is Windows firewall disabled?
- is Sharing enabled?
- did you try having all 3 "Users" on all 3 PCs?
- did you try running the troubleshooter?
seems there was something else to look into, but I'm having a NVL (neural vapor lock) at the moment.

Were you able to access the other machines before on this network and router?

To answer as asked:
- same workgoup
- windows firewall disable
- sharing enabled
- no becuase the users are created per
PC, no domain
- prior placing question we did run
Troubleshooter
- yes, before we had all 3 PC able
to see each other

Okey dokey. Thanks for the feedback.
Sounds like Comodo "hijacked" a setting somewhere.
I will check back tomorrow. I got to get some sleep. I've been up 20 hours. : /

Yup that is what thought. That is why we uninstalled Comodo. Seems Comodo did something there.
Why did you think that comodo firewall was better than the windows 7/8 advanced firewall?
What feature in Comodo was compelling over the Std Firewall?
The big rule is that you must have 'a' firewall of some type.. i.e. Pre Windows XP SP2 there was no firewall or it was not enabled by default.

Last thought before I crash, you might try a Restore to a date before it stopped working, especially if nothing else has recently been installed.
ASKER
We search the net years back for a good solid firewall and Comodo came up.
How can we setup windows firewall to do what we need?

We need to have the 3 PC be able to see each other (share their folders) but restrict other PC in the LAN to access their resources.
If we can't have the 3 PC share thier folders within themselves, at least set one up as the main share folder for the other 2 PC.
The issue is that these 3 PC are used in different location; thus difference LANs.

So first we need to get them talking again.
A few things I saw while poking around:
- try rebuilding the workgroup with a different password.
- Delete and re-create the workgroup.
- Restore OS to a date before they stopped seeing each other.
and just for laughs, try with the AV off.

Prior placing the question, Re-creating workgroup was tried.
As for Restore OS, it's a lot of work for 3 PCs who are constantly being used, but we will keep it mind if all fails.
Did noticed you say AV off; didn't know AV has a firewall. Nevertheless, 1 PC has AV, will proceed uninstall completely.
Will let you know.

Ok we thought to restore the actual OS... ok, will proceed.

Ok will try
hmmmm... if you have trouble with those, omit the word "hit" at the end of the second line. I think he meant to say "hit Enter".
Or you can download the .BAT file, and run that

Tried it but didn't work.
We just connected the 3 pc in another router (a small router/wifi) and without configuring Comodo, at least one of them can be seen by the other 2, and most fortunate, the one that really needs to be shared (super strange).
So maybe is not related to the winsock, but more to Comodo and it reacts to according to the LANs it connects.
There has to be a way that it can be done.

You're right, very strange.
I only know of 2 way to separate computers on a "single" LAN.
- give them a different Workgroup Name from everybody else.
- or use MAC addresses.
I will try to do some reading up on Comodo, and poking around in W7 firewall, and see if I can find anything interesting.

ASKER
Wait, we don't want to separate computers on a single LAN. What we want is to unite them, at least to have 2 of the 3 computers be able to share its resources.
Just wanted to clear this.
Just wanted to clear this.
But I thought you did not want other computers on that LAN to have access to these 3.
ASKER
Yes that is correct, but by default Comodo does that. What we want is have the 3 PC see each other or at least one be able to share with the other 2 it's folders.
ASKER
For some reason we have had no success with Comodo firewall setting up to protect 3 pc in a LAN environment.
Can EE tell how to do it via windows 7 firewall? (or should we delete this question and place another for windows firewall?)

all you have to do is enable file sharing in the firewall, all you have to do is go into network settings in the control panel and it will do it for you.
ASKER
Ok, this mean we can go one in this question: so Sorry for questions that may be obvious, but how do we exactly make one computer block all other except the 2 that need to be shared (using windows 7 firewall)?
Thank you for your patience.

Ok found the answer and the most formidable is setting up on all 3 PC to only permits the MAC address from each (this is a conclusion based on all discuss here). We set it up in Comodo firewall.
It worked!!!
Thanx All!!

Glad to hear it. Without a Comodo setup to actually play with, I was stuck. : )

I didn't try it but I think it also work with windows firewall.
I will look into that. Just to irritate some people on this network I'm on. ; )

Thanx
Thank you much. : )
