Install a power 6 IBM

Hi,
It's arrived a new Power6 IBM.
Now: How to install it?
I need simple steps to follow if it's possible.
I see 2 HMC ports and 2 Ethernet ports.
What to do now?
Thanks

Do you physically?  Or do you mean install a OS?

What model is it? What is meant by "install"? I.e., as asked by giltjr, are you needing to connect HMC, connect to network, and start using it? Or are you needing to install OS and continue with all successive steps?

I already installed as400 with v5r4m0 and terminal console, that one in green screen.
So I went on this phisical console and I configured network, users, backup, etc.
But now, in this new machines, there isn't a phisical terminal green screen console.
So, even if the OS is already installed, I don't know how to comunicate with the machine.
Thanks

the machine is a power6 520 express.
1) Power off the p520 if it's powered on. Unplug the power cord!

-- If your HMC network is "private" (i.e. the HMC is acting as a DHCP server) continue with step 7 below.

-- If your HMC network is "public" (i.e. you're using static IP addresses):

2) Connect the serial port ("S1") of the p520 to an ASCII terminal (19200-N-8-1) using a null-modem cable.
3) Plug in the power cord.
--- After some time the green light on the control panel should start flashing. The display should show "01".
4) Press a key on the ASCII terminal to allow the service processor to confirm the presence of the ASCII terminal.
5) When the login display appears, enter "admin" for the user ID and also "admin" for the password.
--- Change the default password when you are prompted. Set date and time.
6) Set up the IP address/mask/gateway according to your needs using the menus.

7) Unplug the power cord.
8) Connect "HMC1" of the p520 to yout HMC's public or private network.
9) Plug in the power cord.
--- After some time the new machine should appear in the HMC's "Server" view, the name should correspond to the serial number of the p520, the status should be "Standby"
10) Change the server's password:
--- In the navigation pane on the HMC, select System Management > Servers.
--- In the contents pane, select the new server, select Tasks > Operations > Change Password.

10a) Perform this step only if you didn't go through steps 2-6 above:
--- In the contents pane, select the new server, select Tasks > Operations > Launch Advanced Systems Management (ASM) > OK.
--- Login as user "admin", password "admin".
--- Change the deafult password when prompted.
--- Under "System Configuration" set date/time.
--- Leave the ASM.

11) Power on the new server:
--- In the contents pane, select the new server, select Tasks > Operations > Power on.
--- Wait until the machine's status changes to "Operating" (can take some time).

You're now ready to work with your new machine.
Of course you'll want to connect it to your LAN using one or both of the regular Ethernet ports!

Start a virtual terminal session:
--- In the navigation pane on the HMC, select System Management > Servers.
--- In the contents pane, click on the new server's name.
--- You should see at least one logical partition, whose name should also correspond to the server's serial number.
--- Select this partition > Tasks > Console Window < Open Terminal Window

If an OS is already installed (default with new machines) a login prompt will appear.
--- Login as "root" without password if it's a new machine.
--- The Installation Assistant will come up.

How to proceed from here depends on what you're planning to do with the new machine.
If you want to run just a single image continue with the installation assistant.
Once you walked through all menus your new machine is ready for use.

If you plan to configure additional partitions or additional hardware or whatever please let me know.
I will assist you then, yet I fear this will go far beyond the scope of a single question.

Good luck!

How to determine what type of HMC I have?
Is it a properties set on the as400? Isn't it?
Your AS400s have absolutely nothing to do with the HMC<->p520 connection.

Start the HMC GUI, select HMC Management in the navigation pane.
--- In the contents pane select Change Network Settings.
--- In the new window open LAN Adapters > select the adapter you want to query > Details
--- In the next window you can see if ("Private" or "Open") and "Enable DHCP server" are ticked.
--- IF DHCP is not enabled you will see the static IP of the interface in the lower area of the window (execpt for the rare circumstance that an external DHCP server is in use).

Now you know if you must set a static IP on your new machine ("Open" and no DHCP) or not ("Private").
Hi Wool,
Ok, and what port I have to connect to the hub?
Aren't your HMC ports already connected?

If you mean the p520 - use "HMC1", but please perform all the preliminary actions (1-6) indicated above beforehand!

A new machine must never be powered on when connected to the network before all requisites are met!
ok,
I'm reading the installation guide.
My machine is not connected. I power off, I have never power on it.
No cable has never been connected to the machine.
So, what is the HMC (hardware management console)?
Is a software for window? Is an option of operation console?
Is an hardware?
I read about 'operations console'.
Is it an option of iseries access for IBM?
Now I know that 'operations console' is part of 'System i Access for Windows'.
