Iphone 4s sound problems

a friend has no sound in his incoming calls in his iphone 4s, heres his entire question:

Hi, i am visually impaired and have an iPhone 4S and use VOICEOVER feature to use the phone.

2 days ago without having changed any settings, the Speaker of the iPhone stopped working, theres no ring sound in upcoming calls, the speaker doesn't work on Skype either, Notifications are not heard either.

When i touch the screen it doesnt sound, when i take a picture, it doesnt make any sound either. Music works well and with earphones i hear if a call goes in. I can't find a speaker volume control to see if thats the problem and is muted or almost so. In settings the volume is high and the volume control on the left side of the phone is also high. I tried turning on and off the phone.

Besides restoring the phone what else can be done?

Have him try a reset on the phone to see if that helps.  Press and hold both the round circle at bottom and the power switch until the screen goes black.  Turn phone back on (press and hold power until apple symbol appears on screen).

LOL!!!!  I guess we all bypassed the "is it plugged in" question!  Fantastic catch!
