JMS, Procuder vs. Sender

When writing to queues, the code examples I have seen show the following 2 methods

1> A Producer

  MessageProducer    producer    = session.createProducer(queue);
      producer.setDeliveryMode(DeliveryMode.PERSISTENT);

Open in new window

2> A Sender

  // create a queue sender
    |   QueueSender queueSender = queueSession.createSender(queue);
    |   queueSender.setDeliveryMode(DeliveryMode.NON_PERSISTENT);

Open in new window

What is the difference between these two methods of sending messages

Is one more recent

what are the advantages and disadvantages of each ?

Thanks
