Is there a way to develop a redesign of a live public website in a way where it's hidden from the public in SharePoint 2007?
We currently have a public website on Sharpoint 2007 and my boss wants me to redesign it. So I would be using the same content and web parts that are already published, but I'm unsure if I could actually develop a different version using current information but keep it hidden until it is complete. Is that a possibility?

Or is it possible to create a new site collection and just recreate the content all over again? Could that be done and hidden from view? I'm really trying to find a work around for this.
I agree with Jamie, you want to have separate environments for DEV, TEST, STAGE and later PROD. Have atleast one environment for doing your work. Are you talking about adding custom code or just changes that doesn't involve code deployment?

It would involve code deployment. I would be redesigning the site using HTML, CSS and some JavaScript. When you say to have separate environments, can these be created on the same server or would it have to be a completely separate install?
Are there any solutions similar to cloudshare.com that would allow me to use 2007? I'm new to this platform and just need the easiest way to redesign the site without causing any damage to the current live one. I hope this makes sense. Thanks so much for your time and help.
