How can I use IE9 on windows 8 for ASP.Net site?

I got a new laptop and it has Windows 8 and it comes with IE 10.

I developed my site for IE9 and 8.

Not sure how to switch it to IE9. This is what I did:

1. I downloaded IE9 and tried to install it and I got a msg that IE9 is already installed
2. I went to Control Panel and Dont see Windows IE9 in the list of add remove programs.
3. If IE9 is already installed...then where is it?

I found this link that says IE10 is part of Windows 8 and it can't be uninstalled. It says to use Develper Tools to switch the mode (bottom solution)

wonder why i get the msg that IE9 is already installed. Let me look at your links. Thanks.
I agree that you cannot put IE9 on Windows 8.

So then if you need to do this, get a copy of VMware Workstation, install a guest machine that can run IE9 and do it that way. This is how I run older IE versions if my host machine cannot manage it.

thinkpads: do you instructions on how to do that? (get VMWare, etc)? is this something i need to install on the Windows 8 machine?

i can get windows 7 as well for the vmware as the OS? I dont want XP or Vista.
Not sure why it gives you the message about IE9 already installed. Likely a red herring/glitch. They likely just didn't write an effective error message there is my guess.

You might find this helpful as well rather than using the "developer tools":

XP and Vista are dead/orphaned so they can be had quite economically. Windows 7 is still very current. I have my own retail license for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit when I move to Windows 8, but I do not know what the eBay market for Windows 7 is. You can take a look and see and you may find something.

Let me look at your latest link, ddayz10. I kinda dont trust the compatibility mode. This is because a client reported an issue that was happening in IE8. I put my IE9 (my other machine that has windows 7) in IE8 mode and couldnt replicate the issue. But let me look at the link and the vmware.
There are limits to compatibility mode, so that is probably what you are getting.

limits?
limits?

I have had sites fail using compatibility mode, so I just assume the lower level browser is not full function within a higher level browser. I do not have any other explanation.

ah. Thanks for all your help. Let me review and will close this question soon.
Ah I don't think compatibility mode is the best thing ever but its as close as you can get easily. I agree using a VM is the best option but that's not for everyone.
@farzadw - Thank you and I was pleased to help you with this.
