Unable to Load Some Internet Sites

I have 2 of these this morning.  They are similar but different.  I will post them as 2 different threads.

The first problem is a WIndows 7 desktop computer.  I cannot get to several websites - notably Eset's online scanner is a problem.  I can download Revo Uninstaller, but I can't install it. The search provider is AVG Secure .  I cannot uninstall the AVG toolbar.  I was able to Install Malwarebytes from a USB Flashdrive, but I could not download it at all.  The Cnet download button does not respond.

I have run the Windows Defender Offline scanner.  It did find and correct some problems.  Superantispyware found some problems, as did Malwarebytes. The virus or at least its effects are still with me.

TDSS Killer found nothing.

Resetting IE did not improve the situation.

I tried to run Hiren's boot CD, and it reported a PXE stack problem - would not boot.  The CD actually worked last week on another problem.

I am out of bullets at this point.  What else can I try to kill this virus?

Looks like a nasty one resistant to "bullets".  ;-)

The solution:  Repair or clean reinstall.  Save your files.

Sophos found some problems, but IE 9 is still not behaving.  I was able to load Revo uninstallerand remove the AVG toolbar - or so I thought.  When I launched IE AVG secure search came back as the search provider even though it was supposed to have been uninstalled.  I managed to remove it and some other random search providers.  I was left with Bing.

I tried to add Google as a search provider.  I could select Google and get the page to add it to IE, but the button to add it as a search provider did not respond.

Is there a trick that I am missing here?

I tried creating a new profile and Installing IE 10.  Neither did any good.  I still cannot add Google as a search provider.  I was able to delete Funmoods and AVg as search providers.

I hope I never have to use Sophos CLI again. It did find a problem, but it ran overnight for 2 nights.  After I used it, I could install Rvo uintaller and remoe the pesky AVG Security toolbar.  With tht toolbar removed IE 9 operated properly.

Good news. I know what you mean about Sophos CLI but it is effective.

Glad it worked out for you.
