How to remove Sophos AutoUpdate

We have attempted to remove Sophos from two of our servers however the AutoUpdate uninstaller simply hangs at the configuring screen. Is there any safe way to remove the AutoUpdate program from Windows Server 2008? I have used the script that Sophos provided but it does not offer 2008 support and I would rather not risk damaging the server.

If you still have the installer, try reinstalling first.  Do a reboot and then try uninstalling.
To clarify,  you have successfully removed Sophos itself, just not the updater?

DrUltima -- That is correct. The AV itslef has been removed.
From the Sophos forum:

Check to see if either of the registry keys exist:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{2C7A82DB-69BC-4198-AC26-BB862F1BE4D0}
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{2C7A82DB-69BC-4198-AC26-BB862F1BE4D0}

If present and no DisplayName is named value exists it will not show in Add/Remove programs or Programs & Features.

Instead run the following command to uninstall it (this string will be present in the registry so you can copy and paste it out from there):
    MsiExec.exe /X {2C7A82DB-69BC-4198-AC26-BB862F1BE4D0}

I also found this removal script on SpiceWorks:

DrU
I tried the options you suggested and the msi hung and crashed.
