unable to boot from a cloned hard drive
I cloned a hard drive from an old computer (OS Win XP Pro SP3)that had many programs that are not available to reload. I placed the hard drive in a new computer and did a repair install of Windows XP Pro
SP3, but I cannot get the drive to boot. I ran chkdsk /r, did fixmbr and fixboot. I can't even boot into safe mode..it just keeps looping back to restart. I have done this operation many times in the past, and it worked without a hitch. Any ideas?

I can't boot into safe mode. There is a blue screen, but it disappears faster than I can read it.

Is ther a way to disable the drivers with the hard drive as a slave?

The new computer was loaded with XP as the default OS. So it should be good.
Agree XP should be fine in that case. Nevertheless, if the "new" system has hardware virtualization support, I'd virtualize the old system so you never have to contend with this again :-)

NOPOINTS:
just to amplify marek1712 hit f8 on boot until you get the menu and then disable the automatic reboot on error.

If you put the NEW hard drive in the OLD computer does it boot properly?
What type of cpu was in the old computer and what is in the new computer?

I have looked for the ability to diasable auto reboot, but haven't found it. This is a Dell system DXP051. It appears to be an Intel setup. I don't have a quick enough trigger finger to pause the BSOD.
@atf3doc - look at ve3ofa suggestion: start hitting F8 right after the POST procedure. There's the option.

I can get to the menu to select safe mode. It just won't boot into safe mode. It auto restarts.

OK disabled auto restart and can now read the BSOD. It is 0x0000007B. I had done a full system backup and restored my disk using Acronis Plus Pack using Universal Restore. I had the chipset drivers on a USB drive...maybe they didn't load properly.
use the boot corrector from paragon : http://www.paragon-software.com/home/rk-express/
This BSoD generally states the hard disk controller driver mismatch. You can safely start the repair install if the Paragon software fails.

no luck with the paragon...retrying repair install....will advise

I can't see any place in the BIOS to change from AHCI to IDE...I think that would help.
During my reimaging with Acronis I had an error that said it couldn't find the AHCI driver

What kind of computer is this? Made by some company (like Dell, HP) or custom made? If latter - can you tell us what mainboard is inside?
If there's AHCI controller, Windows installer won't be able to detect HDD and your only option will be to integrate controller's drivers with XP's installation disc (using i.e. nLite tool).

marek1712,
I'm trying your suggestion of Regedit PE..I put it on a flash drive and loaded Barts Ultimate Boot CD and I'm in regedit. Where is the key you were talking about for changing start up to 0?

If that's your issue, your best bet is to virtualize your old computer. The free VMware Converter makes this fairly painless, and can even read image files from many of the more popular imaging utilities (e.g. Acronis). And once you have the PC virtualized, you'll be able to move it to new computers anytime you need to by simply copying virtual machine's folder.
