How do I get a second primary partition to boot

I wanted to restore an older backup of my system drive and the only options I could make work was to restore it to a partition (in this this case it was a primary partition).

After making the mistake of marking it active (DON'T DO IT...there's a small hidden partition that needs to be active or you will start getting BOOTMGR missing message...been there done that).  It's recoverable, but takes a few steps.

Anyway, I'm back to booting the old C: and I'd like to choose the new D:

Help please

Thank you all.
I am finding out the very hard way that imaging Server 2008 onto extra partitions is a real nightmare.  Not at all like XP.
