Microsoft Word and UAC
Today I received a support call on Word. This morning one of my users started having problems opening Word Documents on the Network. When he double clicks on a document on the network he gets the following popup From User Access Control.
Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer. If you say no Word exits if you say yes it opens but then you get a message that the directory is not valid. Once Word is open you can use file open to browse to the same folder and open the file with no problem.
He is running Windows 7 64Bit, Office 2010 and we are using a Novell Network.
I have tried repairing Office, removing add-ons, scanning for viruses updating the Novell client to the most current version and uninstalling the only Microsoft update listed as being installed today.
Is there anything I have missed?

We are running Netware 6.5.8. The drives are mapped using maproot in the Novell startup scripts. However I do not think it is something to do with Netware. I have 70 other computers all connecting and having no problems opening documents on the servers.
I tried all of the steps in the previous posts without it making any difference.

Seen funky things happen using the UNC mapping thing from time to time.
Couple of things on the client side, when installing the client piece ,no other protocol other than TCP.and check the bindings order.

What happens if you just start word from the startmenu?
What happens if you do not login to the network, only to the workstation?
You could try to use System restore to restore the pc to the time before this problem started.
Does the problem also exist when another user logs in on that computer?

I am only using TCP
If you start Word from the start menu it prompts you with the UAC
I have not had anyone else logon to see what happens.

What do you mean with "I am only using TCP"?
Can you try to logon with another user on that workstation to see if the problem is related to the user/user-profile or the workstation?
At least the problem does not seem network related, since it also happens when you just start Word locally without trying to open a document on the network.
Further suggestions:
Disable all addins;
Right click on the icon -> Properties -> Compatibility. Make sure Run as administrator is not ticked.

Try turning the Netware client side caching off.
The client-side setting is located:
Advanced Settings -> Performance, Cache -> File Caching [On/Off]
This turns off Level 1 OpLocks. There is no way to turn off Level 2 OpLocks from the Client.
