Turn off a timer but there is a catch

I need to turn off a pitch timer I have a web page that uses a timer to get info from a xml file This file monitors pitches but Like other xml files I use all have a tag called status and status gets set to FINAL BUT in the pitch file the tag status never comes to an end FiNAL So The timer keeps cranking away how would I like look at the base xml for that file's status change to Final so I can turn off the pitch xml timer.
