SQL SERVER 2008 Integration Services Data Transformation

I am trying to import Excel data into a sql table using integration services (this is going to be a daily batch job).  The data types in excel are going to change on a conitnual basis though, so in the sql table I just setup the fields to accept text data and wanted to convert whatever is found in excel to a text format so it will post to the sql table without error.

The issue I am encountering is a type conversion issue that says the conversion between types is not supported (this occurs in cases where the excel data is numeric).

I tried using a data conversion and also tried using a derived column transformation step but received similar error messages.  It seems this should be a lot simpler then this so I am likely missing something obvious here?

More specifically the error I am getting is "conversion between types DT_R8 adn DT_TEXT is not supported"  when trying to import (my table is using a text type for the target field).  However I also cannot convert the DT_R8 type into a text value before passing it to the Sql Server Destination.

I changed the table to use char(50) then used data conversion from DT_R8 to DT_STR and now it is working great!  Thank you
