Exchange 2007 - vanishing tasks
Working with a small company that really hammers their exchange server. They use public folders in the place of share-point (or other collab software) and it's pretty overwhelming how much is in there. The put tasks (once completed) and emails in the public folders.
The issue is tasks disappearing in transit.
They use assigned tasks with follow ups, they forward them to other users when they finish their part of the task, then original requester checks up on the tasks.
Often when someone assigns a task or is assigned a task it will just vanish. It doesn't get removed from the sender's task-list but never makes it to the recipients task list.
They attach files and such to the tasks.
I noticed a lot of active sync errors so I updated the active sync file size allowed which got rid of most of the active sync errors.
Any other ideas on where to look? Logs are really not showing any specific issues outside of the above mentioned active sync issues.

Check if they are mail enabled objects. If not, enable it and check again.

Version 8.2 (Build 176.2)
Looks like rollup 5 for 2007
PF is about 160GB
Message tracking doesnt show problems, but this is intermittent and only occurs when someone assigns a task to another person. No emails are having delivery options.
They claim it happens a few times a day out of hundreds of task assignments.
It isn't between specific users the problem exist, it seems more or less random to me.

Your saying that the PF database is 160 GB right :) ...... whats the size of the PF having the issue and is the task send\moved ?

The issue doesn't occur specifically when moving tasks in and out of the PF.
They use lots of small folders to track tasks and such for jobs, I would expect each folder to be a few less than a gig at the top end (yes they have tons of them)

Not sure if with so much data its due to some corruption ? Cant they retire old subfolders that give issue and start with new ones ?
I know its touch to take that in but if you want to give a try as you say it happens quiet a few times daily so within a day or 2 we would know the results

The regular maintenance cycle does say no corruption, but you're thinking new items may be showing corruption and get dropped?
I notice this machine only has 12GB of RAM, however it isn't getting a lot of hard faults, so it isn't using any paging to speak of despite the high transaction volume.

Its a good idea.
I'll give it a shot.
That's a lot of work so I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was missing before I do that.

Rancy has a full scope on knowledge on this topic. No magic bullet but he pointed me to the next step.
Here is what I understand, out of hundreds of tasks being assigned in a day between users, there are few that "disappear".
Here is what may be happening, a particular PF might be getting accessed by multiple users at the same time and tasks may be getting assigned to numerous folks at the same time.
The point you mentioned about RAM and all wouldn't even appear in the list of troubleshooting. Cause your server is working good for hundreds of tasks. Point of corruption wouldn't appear cause "few out of hundreds" of tasks are affected. Here is what I'd suggest, have folders divided between agents/users - don't have multiple people access the same folder at the same time. Also, if possible rule out issues of accessing PFs using OL and webmail and Activesync at the same time.
Educate users to access them using one of the above, i know it wouldn't make sense to end users but understand each method stated above works differently. So, pinpointing would be easy once we know which method is faulty.
