File manager for Wordpress
I have been looking for a WordPress that is user-friendly for non-technical types, and also secure. I have come VERY close to what i want with the plug-in "Advanced WP File Manager" by RedHawk studio. It displays files just like a directory on your local drive, and I think that it will be very easy for my members to use. The ONLY problem that I have is that I want the folders where the files are stored to be secure, so that only approved users/groups can see and download content.
The plug-in mentioned will allow download to anyone who knows the URL and types it in a browser. the developer says his plug in will not work in the way that I want, so I am turning to the EE community for advice for a plug-in as close as possible to what I want...

It looks close, but not quite what I want with folders, etc. Although it looks like the developer responds pretty quickly to requests (such as mine, for secure access). I might spend the $15 just to give it a try if nothing else surfaces....
I use this plugin to allow only certain users to view pages. If someone types in a direct URL it will still require a login:

Maybe you could use this plugin in conjunction with your folders page, allowing only your preferred users to access the page.

@profgeek,
This might work, but I would have to make every file I upload a page, and on that page include the PDF (or other file) for downloading. It might work, but would require so much time to create a page for every file it would be unworkable to maintain...
