Migrate Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 as member of SBS 2011 domain

I have a member server that is a Windows Server 2008 R2 and is a member of a SBS 2011 domain. I would like to upgrade the 2008 server to a 2012 server. Is there any problem with doing this. I cannot find any articles on this. I assume that it is ok but I wanted to confirm that it is. Anyone do this?

The Server 2012 has 10 cals with it (part of my MS Partner software). I am looking at purchasing the 2008 server cals. Are device cals and user cals interchangeable?

No.  Especially in 2012.  User CALs are more expensive.
This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.

And you wouldn't purchase 2008 CALs - you cannot use them to access 2012 servers.  You NEED to get 2012 CALs.

I decided not to upgrade since I was not sure that all my apps will work. I was able to get my 2012 cals to be converted to 2008 cals by calling MS licensing.
