Can the edb files from exch 2007 be brought back online on another exch 2007 server

I have an old exch 2007 server that we need to keep the emails for at least 3-4 years. We migrated the users from this server over to another exch 2007 server. So all is there now is the disconnected emails for all users.
My question is, if I backup the edb files from the old server, would I be able to mount that again at some point if I had to build another exch 2007 server to get a particular users email from it or since I migrated the users email over to another exchange server, would the old edb files not be any good now from the old server?

To get the old edb mounted you have to ensure that the Exchange Organization and new server is more upgraded in terms of SP and RU .... rest Database can be brought to clean shutdown if not

If everything is moved to new server. Then i don't see reason of keeping old db. As there will be nothing for you to backup and restore.

Well the issue is that there was some old disconnected mailboxes on the old server before all the users were migrated from the old exch 2007 server to the new exch 2007 server and now they need to keep those old disconnected mailboxes for future use in case any legal issues come up. But now since the migration, all the mailboxes show up as disconnected on the old exch 2007 server.

I agree to Rancy. Also same process used by me also. i normally cut down data into pst and gave it to legal team and let them manage it for any future reference.
