IE 32-bit and 64-bit both running

I'm not sure how it happened, but both Internet Explorer 9, 64-bit and 32-bit, are running on my system. I'd like to get rid of the 64-bit version if possible.

if you open taskmanager and sort the processes, Internet Explorer, 64 bit is listed as "iexplore.exe', and Internet Explorer, 32 bit is listed as "iexplore.exe *32"  You can terminate the 64 bit process to get it to stop running.  Unfortunately, you cannot remove it from the computer, on a 64 bit system IE installs both versions at the same time.  What you can do is to delete the shortcuts to the executable and set up the 32 bit version as your default browser.

the 64 bit version launches this: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

the 32 bit version launches this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

I suppose if you wanted to ensure that you never launch the 64 bit version you could browse out to that location and rename that executable file.

Thanks, believe it or not, I discovered the same solution. You deserve the points, though, for your clear description. Thanks.
