Updating Ubuntu 12.10 Packages

Hi,

I am new to Ubuntu.

When I log in via SSH - I get the following:
84 packages can be updated.
54 updates are security updates.

How do I update them? Will it overwrite anything in the packages that may be related to configuration?

I am mainly using it for Apache / MySQL

Thank you

Thank you - I have done all except the kernel upgrades - kind of worried about doing that - should I be?

When I log back in, it still says the same
84 packages can be updated.
54 updates are security updates.

But when I repeat your steps (except kernel), it says all updated.

When will the login screen reflect the changes? E.g., no updates needed?

Thanks,
rindi

I haven't had any issues with kernel updates.

Maybe you need a reboot for the login screen to get reset (and the kernel upgrades would need that anyway).
