asked on

when time for second exchange server

Hello all, at what point is it time for us to get a second exchange server? Right now we have one at our headquarters office and it supports over 35 schools as well as the hq staff. It totals about 2,000 users. Does microsoft have a recommended threshold for when a second server?

What version of Exchange are you running?  You can look at the system requirements for Exchange 2013 here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

Or Exchange 2010:
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/2010/en/ca/system-requirements.aspx

Also, is the server running slow?  Are users complaining?  If the answer is no, then a second server may not be necessary.  But also keep in mind that it may be better to replace the old server with a newer one; on top of being more powerful to meet your users needs, newer hardware comes with a longer life span.

ASKER

I've looked at those requirements but they don't say at what point we would need an additional server
