Problems exporting messages with Windows Live Mail

Hi All

I have just bought a new Windows 8 system and downloaded Windows Live Mail. I have set up my accounts and it is sending and receiving fine. I wanted to export the messages from my old Windows 7 computer which also has Windows Live mail Installed. I followed the instructions and selected the folders I wanted to export and then stored these to a folder on a USB stick. Despite there being 100s of megabytes of data it seemed to do this very quickly and when I tried to import the folders into Live Mail on the new system there is only one message in each folder.

I then tried manually copying the email files from app data/Windows Live Mail and copying these into new folders (app data/Windows Live Mail on the new machine. This seems to have worked for the inbox items, except that all the 'From' names have either " or <> before/after the name.

All the messages in Sent Items have my own e-mail address instead of the person I sent the message to.

Is this normal? Is there another way of doing it so that I get an exact copy of everything that was in my original email folders?

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Terry

You say " I followed the instructions ".  What instructions were these?

Forgive me if you did the following.
On the old Win 7 PC click WLM File|Export Mail|Email Messages and follow Wizard directions to send to the USB key.  Plug the USB stick into the new Win 8 PC and click WLM File|Import Messages|and follow Wizard directions to import from USB stick.

"WLM File" is the blue button at the top left of the WLM screen.

Hi Thinkpads_User

Your solution worked a treat. Also, for future reference, I just realised that WLM uses From, Subject and Date as the default column headings for all the imported folders, which is why it was showing my name against all messages in the Sent folder. All I needed to do was right click the column header bar and select 'columns' to make the 'To' column visible and hide the 'From' column.

Sorry jcimarron but I had already tried the standard export wizard.
