Recovering backup .Qic files on Windows 7

Hi,

I have come across some old backup DVD's that need to be recovered. On the DVD's there are some files called
BACKUP.QIC.

and they were made back in 2005 and need to be recovered. I'm hoping very much they were not password protected.

When googling there is a lot of information about recovering these on Windows XP PC's but nothing beyond that.
I'm thinking surely there is a free app or some easy way I can see the contents of the file?

Any input appreciated.

Do you have knowledge about the backup program which created this backup files? Your best change would be to use this old program to read the files. Was it an old MSBackup version?

In the worst case you can build a virtual machine (with VMware Player for example) with an old OS like WIN98 or XP and restore the files within this OS.

Looks like I might have to. there was mention that the backup program might have been NDO backup, but when I google this I cannot find any mention of it?

Anyone heard of NDO backup or maybe something slightly similar.
I have done some more research and foudn that it was NTI,however this also gave no joy.
Further googling implies that you actually need Windows 98 in order to read a .qic file.
I ave installed windows XP mode.

Surely there must be an easier way to recover a .qic file. in Windows XP or Windows 7
As you already found out by yourself, it's not easily possible to restore .qic files. I would recommend, that you install a virtual Win98 or Win95 machine with VMware Player. The player is free, all you have to do is to register at VMware. Installing the player and the VM with Win98 should be done within one hour or so. But you need a Win98 or Win95 CD get it running.

It was my own research in the end that managed to find the program that was used for the backup.
