Backup 2008 server without formatting drive.

Is there a way to create a backup job to run without it formatting the external drive? I want to have other programs run backups to that drive as well.

when you say formatting, does the backup program you are using prompt for this action? Also what program are you using

I am just using windows server backup. and yes it prompts me to do it without allowing me to bypass it.
could you crate a network share on the drive and map the backup to that folder?
it doesn't let you set network shares as a backup location only attached drives.
nice article, but doesn't help my situation. I just need to know if there is a way to bypass it formatting the entire drive so that I can use it to back up other stuff onto it.
